Dry Vehicle

Drying the exterior surfaces follows the exterior wash, and is the final step in the washing process. It is important to allow the vehicle to dry fully after washing. If the vehicle is not dry, when it is moving, water will run out from seams and crevices, leaving streaks on the side of the vehicle.

For best results, it is recommended to begin removing the water using a soft silicone, one pass water blade, followed with a microfiber towel, chamois, or drying cloth. An air gun is also recommended to speed up the drying process.

The time to dry the vehicle exterior is dependent on the exterior surface area of the vehicle. Once drying is complete, the areas of application will be clean and free from water.

Safety supplies include goggles and impervious gloves. You will require pressure equipment (for use with the air gun) to complete this task. View the products used tab for Auto Valet products and accessories relating to this detailing task.

Directions

STEP 1: PREPARE THE AREAS OF APPLICATION

Complete an exterior wash before thoroughly drying the vehicle.

STEP 2: USE A WATER BLADE

Use a soft silicone, one pass water blade to remove the majority of the water. Start with the roof of the vehicle and wipe downwards towards and over the windshield, then across the hood, side glass, and then the vehicle body.

STEP 3: ALLOW TO DRY FULLY AND REVIEW

Use a microfiber towel, chamois, or zorbit drying cloth to remove excess standing water on areas such as the grille, around the door handles, windows, and trim.
Leave the vehicle stationary to finish air-drying. If time is limited, quickly remove water from the seams using an air gun; including areas such as mirrors, license plates, and around doors. Review work and ensure all water is removed.

Tips

  • It is important to allow the vehicle to dry fully. If the vehicle is not dry, when it is moving, water will run out from seams and crevices, leaving streaks on the side of the vehicle.
  • Using a silicone water blade is a safe and effective way to remove up to 90% of the water in one pass, on the vehicle’s surface.
  • When using pressure equipment, ensure it is in safe operating condition. Never direct water or air pressure streams at yourself or others.
  • Be sure to carefully read and follow all product instructions and precautions, on the product labels.
